The purpose of having a control surface is to get away from mouse-driven software navigation as much as possible and these six little buttons now mean that a huge Pro Tools function can be run remotely. This is great news and, some would say, overdue. The 003 now offers the opportunity to set up and switch automation modes direct from the front panel itself, with six dedicated switches lying to the left of the eight motorised faders. The first way in which improved ergonomics have been implemented is automation-based.
This inclines towards the front, is much easier to read and actually does a decent job as a kind of administrative meter bridge.
#DIGI 003 PROBLEMS WINDOWS#
There´s a further design improvement at the top of the unit´s front panel too, as the Digi 002´s short LCD windows (which appeared above each channel strip), have been replaced by one long, continuous pane. Digidesign have concentrated their efforts on trying to make it easier to do more from the interface, hence the extra buttons. Despite the sleek exterior, the top panel is actually busier than on the 002, because of some functions that have been added at the interface stage itself. While the 002 didn´t suffer either of these problems too extremely, the 003 is certainly easier on the eye. After all, you´re going to spend hours with this in your studio and you don´t want to spend them frustrated by design or squinting at illegible print. People tend to be split on this: does the design matter, as it´s not exactly going to be audible on the music you produce? But such things do make a difference to working practice. The slightly brooding, dark grey livery has been replaced by a more beige and cream design, and - in case you´re thinking that sounds a bit safe - rest assured that it all makes for far easier reading and operating. I could get my local reseller to do the research but my local reseller isnt local right now.Aesthetically, the 003 is a much better looking box than its predecessor. So if anyone can provide any info it would be much appreciated or at least if someone could point me in the direction of someone at avid that I could get in contact with that could at least tell me if it will ever work I know that the digi 002 is supported and works in media composer but the only way to get one these days from my research is somewhere used like through ebay which i think others can sympathize that i really do not want to go the route of taking the risk of buying used and going through ebay, ebay can be a gamble at times and i dont like unecessary risks like that. i really could use the more I/Os of the digi 003 and dont want to settle for less with an mbox unless thats my only choice and buying a digi 003 for protools and a command|8 just for avid seems a bit absurd to me I am aware and have looked into the Command|8 but dont really want to tag team this with an mbox just to have something that works with both my avid setup and protools setup.
#DIGI 003 PROBLEMS MAC#
This will all be used on a new HP workstation, i know my system info says mac pro but that will become designated for another MC setup as I am sure the digi 003 would be supported in avid on a windows machine before on a mac i do not mind having to dual boot or putting protools and and media composer on seperate systems, i just would like to be able to by a console that i can use with both. I have the cash to expand the audio side of my setup and really would like to incorporate the digi 003. Anyone have any insight into where current things stand with the digi 003 (I am aware that it is unsupported currently but wondering if or when this might change)
